This was my homework last night. Cut paper(blk, wht, 2 grays) with conte. I worked on it from 7pm-5:30am, but it always takes me forever with cut paper. Compared to the collages I did for drawing 2 last year, this is a master piece, lol. Unfortunately I didn't quite understand the assignment and it turns out that although its a nice drawing it was supposed to be simplified and more about the composition than the objects. So I'll have to redo it but at least this time I know what to do, I still like this one the way it is though.

These are from the second semester of last year when I had to take 2D Design... I loved that class and the projects but they were hell! I only had 4 classes that semester and all of my time literally went to this class. There was no way I could work on anything else. We had a sketchbook we were required to fill, at least 20-50 pages every 2 days(I had it twice a week) plus whatever project we had going on which was always cut paper assignments(which is what i really suck at).
The drawing at the top was the preliminary sketch for the final piece at the bottom. It was a collage project. 75% of the image had to be done in small pieces of paper(less than an inch) and the rest could be varying sizes...I used ALL tiny little pieces, except for the clock, that has about the biggest whole pieces on it. The piece was also supposed to be monochromatic, ranging from cool to warm variations of one color and then we had to introduce some earth tones in it which would be sunset area. If I remember correctly I obsessed over this picture so much that there is at least 4-5 layers of paper on it, just over lapping. I worked on it for probably a week and a half. I kept messing up and having to rework some areas, the rocks at the bottom of the tree were the most difficult so in the end I made them more abstract.
I lost a lot of sleep over this project and its a good thing I had Steph, my roommate, to remind me to eat or else I probably would've curled up in a bawl and died on the rug, lol. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, I wasn't able to get it in on time and I did not get an A. It was not put on display, sadly I got either a high C or a B. My teacher loved it but because it was late.... By this time I didn't really care, I was just sick and tired of working on it. I was proud of it though and I felt really accomplished afterwords.

I find it interesting that the class I was looking for to the most is less interesting than the one I was dreading having to take. At least in Gov we're learning something. Interesting fact they didn't teach me in high school American History: Thomas Jefferson was a whore, he wussed out on his duties, and he didn't really give a crap about God or religion.
Another interesting fact: That painting depicting the founding fathers and key delegates signing the Declaration of Independence is a load of bull. 1) they were committing a treasonous act 2) if caught they would have been hung 3) they weren't that stupid. I just thought that was pretty cool. That and the fact that the founding fathers were deist and Thomas Paine basically called god a rapist(not saying I agree) but I thought that quote was pretty epic.
